In a post on the Bethesda blog, all 6 multiplayer modes were revealed in a trailer along with some information on each specific mode. The six modes include the following:
Soul Harvest Freeze Tag Warpath Domination Team Deathmatch Clan Arena
The six modes offer a good balance of familiarity and unknown. Warpath is essentially a king of the hill clone. Domination is also exactly like its domination counterparts in games like Destiny (Control) and Call of Duty (also domination). Team Deathmatch is – you guessed it – a team deathmatch. If you need to know more on this game mode, then you simply need to re-think why you are reading this. Clan Arena is basically Team Deathmatch, only you do not respawn and there are no power-ups.
Soul Harvest and Freeze Tag seem to be the two gems of Doom multiplayer. Soul Harvest is essentially the same idea as kill confirmed in Call of Duty. Players try to kill other players, and then collect the soul token that the fallen have left behind. Whoever has the most souls will win the game. Freeze tag is just what you would think it is. The only difference is that instead of tagging players with your hands, you are using bullets. The first team to completely freeze the other will be declared the winner.
The main selling point for almost all of these game modes (save for clan arena) is the demon rune power-up. Bethesda does seem to be relying on playing as a demon being the game changer for Doom. It remains to be seen if six game modes, along with a really awesome power up, will be enough to make this title shine. Doom hits stores for Xbox One, PS4 and PC on May 13th, 2016.
